Trump To Detain Illegal Migrants at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would direct the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security to set up a migrant detention center at Guantanamo Bay, with the capacity to hold up to 30,000 migrants.

Trump stated the facility would be used to detain "the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people," adding that some individuals are deemed too dangerous for their home countries to hold, and as a result, would be sent to Guantanamo. "This will immediately double our capacity. And, it will be tough," he remarked.
